Juniper Networks, in Partnership With Ericsson, Delivers Advanced IP Services Capabilities for China Mobile
China Mobile Extends IP Routing for Delivery of GPRS Mobile, Data, Voice and Multimedia Services with Juniper Networks M-Series Routers

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 2002-- Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR - news), a leading provider of profitable infrastructures for the New Public Network, today announced, with the addition of four provincial Chinese mobile operators, all subsidiaries of China Mobile Communications Corp. (China Mobile), its M-series Internet routers deliver core, mobile and edge IP services on the Chinese Mobile-IP Network. Juniper Networks is working in partnership with Ericsson to make up 80 percent of the entire China Mobile IP Network.

China Mobile is the largest operator of global system for mobile communications (GSM) in the world and offers a mobile network covering all metropolitan areas and more than 98 percent of county towns in China. The operator currently adds 5 million subscribers per month to its network. Juniper Networks M-series routers are helping China Mobile scale to deliver voice and data services over the largest mobile-IP network in the world.

Eighteen China Networks leverage Juniper Networks advanced IP technology

Provincial Chinese mobile operators Chongqing Mobile Communications Co., Hunan Mobile, Yunnan Mobile and Xinjiang Mobile are the latest to be added to the IP network build-out, which includes Shandong Mobile, Shanxi Mobile and Inner Mongolia Mobile.

The new network infrastructure includes additional Juniper Networks M160, M40 and M20 Internet routers and provides the foundation for China Mobile's subsidiaries to offer subscriber access to Mobile Internet applications and 3G networking. The networks are initially delivering general packet radio service (GPRS) mobile services as well as a variety of data, voice and multimedia applications.

The additional M-series Internet routers in China Mobile's network strengthen Juniper Networks relationship with China Mobile, building upon the September 2000 Ericsson/Juniper Networks announcement to deploy the operator's national mobile Internet IP network. Since that time, Juniper Networks cooperation with leading provincial mobile operators in China has also increased with 14 new IP backbone contracts including Zhejiang Mobile, Guangdong Mobile, Anhui Mobile, Hebei Mobile, Jiangsu Mobile, Shanxi Mobile, Heilongjiang Mobile, He'nan Mobile, Fujian Mobile, Hubei Mobile, Shandong Mobile, Shanxi Mobile and Inner Mongolia Mobile.

In all of the contracts with China Mobile, Juniper Networks worldwide distribution partner Ericsson is responsible for the supply and integration of the IP-infrastructure solutions. Ericsson also supplies customer services, such as installation, support and training.
