passed a billion dollar bond to win the project In the early to mid 1980's I was very busy. My wife and I did not yet have kids and were both heavily involved with the emerging technology of the IBM-PC and AT. I was traveling a lot between Austin, Houston, and California and working long hours. After work my wife and I would get together for happy hours and disco. The supercollider was something I was only dimly aware of. I was much more aware of the banks, about that time we had 7 banks fail in a couple years. After each failure another bank would take over our deposits which took several days and time off work to sign papers, then that bank would fail. I got into the habit of keeping several thousand dollars in cash in a box to tide us over between failures. Sometimes we wouldn't even get our pre-printed checks delivered before the deposits were moved again. It finally ended in a massive real-estate crash, I was laid off (again) so we simplfied and started a family. TP
