I would mainly say that socialist can be democrats and that also the term is usually applied to people who want significant but less then total government control of the economy.

I oppose both, but would be more afraid at the prospect of a Stalin taking over in the US then the possibility of something the British Labor party.

Also my point was not just the difference between socialist and communist but rather the fact that the threat is more from Americans who do not believe in a free market then from agents of a foreign government. I would add that it is more from the left wing of the Democratic party or from parties like the Green party then it is from the Communist party or the Socialist Workers Party or something similar. And it is one that must be faced with democratic political action not arrests or warfare.
