Yes, but .... and it's a big but - the chip needs to be connected to a very big antennae. Now, if you live in a rural area, you might be willing to make the trade off. that assumes, of course, that most of your rural calling is outdoors, and you have an antennae on your car.

The real answer for a G* terrestrial tie up will no doubt await the FCC decision on terrestrial spectrum for MSS.
