Their market is officially toast. The last country to try outlawing short sales was indonesia, and shortly thereafter their economy collapsed and the population was thrown into violent anarchy.

How is anyone supposed to hedge positions if they can't short? What happens to their options exchanges? Won't the japanese just flee their market into gold?
