Tony: Looks like a great opportunity for Dell.

Dell is poised for explosive growth in Europe, IMHO. They are the only major OEM to really have their game plan together. For example, Compaq's best system could have been bought 4-6 months ago - I cannot believe how slow they are in getting the latest processors from both Intel and AMD into their lineup.

I'm not too familiar with Fujitsu-Siemens (which obviously has quite a following in Germany, with > 20% market share), but HP is not all that different.

I don't know if you are familiar with Vobis, the last remaining entry on the list, but they are little more than a chain of screw driver shops. Quality is not particularly good in my experience (I've owned 2 Vobis systems - one purchased in Bruxelles, the other in Bonn) and service is very questionable as well.

IMO, Dell has the best consumer service (I have little direct experience with their business service) of any company around - no exceptions. They also offer a wide range of models, from low-end to high-end, at very reasonable prices. Quality is decent and the overall design is excellent. Actually, my only annoyance is that their "accessories" selection is extremely narrow. E.g. you can choose between only 2 keyboards/mice for any given system (one Logitech and one Microsoft - neither a high-end component).

But this is, of course, one of the reasons why Dell can offer such a competitive package.
