why couldn't you have a plug in piece to normal size handset that has the G* antenna?

A great idea. Already suggested by RS a long time ago. Iridium has something similar, and I suspect it is quite handy. Still doesn't solve the "no indoor connection" problem for rural users.

or add G* antenna to your car and simply plug the handset into the car holder?

You're preaching to the choir here. I've been asking for just such a solution forever. I even went so far as to begin design of a G* automobile with a retracting antennae roof port - figuring the brains at G* probably would reject anything as simple as a roof mounted antennae that plugged into the phone. Unfortunately, neither the car, nor the plug in antennae, ever got much attention from G*. They'd rather (not) sell very expensive "hand free" installations that cost more than a used car. Souze bought one. I think he and the other guy who bought one have started a club. <g>

All kidding aside, I think there's a huge market for a "gap coverage" automobile option. After all, it's when driving that you usually drop calls. G* doesn't see it that way. 'course G* is now bankrupt, and I still ain't - no thanks to G* of course ... and hardly comforting. Biggest group of bone headed screw ups this side of VOD. If I'd had a couple of drinks I'd tell you how I really feel about them, and the wasted opportunity caused by blind greed, inertia, and institutional stupidity.
