I noticed that in some of the obits of Vernon Walters they noted that Walters - he headed the CIA - refused John Dean in his Watergate cover-up. The obits noted that NIxon ordered his staff not to try to influence Walters because Walters could not be influenced.

The NYTimes sought to blur the issue. They never mentioned that Nixon was on tape ordering his staff not to try to influence Walters. They said that Haldeman did try but was rebuffed and only then did they mention that John Dean pursued the matter, apparently on his own.

I suspect that John Dean is the snake in all that. I believe that is the conclusion of some authors.
