It is true that the final flourish is somewhat hyperbolic. On the other hand, I had made clear in the body of the essay the kinds of things I deplored. Frankly, I think the essay could have as easily been written by a liberal disaffected with the tendencies of "contemporary liberalism", and therefore is not particularly partisan.

Of course, being human, I respond well to having my merits discussed. Indeed, I would agree that there are times and places for the more analytic essay. I think there is room for the rhetorical flourish, too, though. Perhaps it is an aesthetic question. I was not writing contemplatively, but oratorically. I find it enjoyable to be able to sound a more vibrant array of notes.

I do not think my observations are counter- intuitive at all. People are sensitive to how they are viewed. They want respect. Sometimes that makes them defiant. Sometimes it makes them try to prove themselves to you.

Creationism is not high the list of most conservative organizations, if present at all. It is also not worth engaging in internecine warfare over.......
