If I was trading in the market, I would be making money in either direction. But I find I am better at shorting in bull markets. I have not had the opportunity to trade in this bear market, so I do not know if I would have the same positive experience shorting in this market.

I see you have shared with us some interesting and worthwhile maxims on volume that are worth noting. Please share with us your other volume related maxims. Still, as far as one poster asking if it matters that we are in a bear market, I think it does.

I am seeing this period of time as a market in transition. There definitely has been some speculative enthusiasm out there. Perhaps the bear market was over last September. This understanding, which will occur much later after the fact, will not prevent us from seeing additional steep sell offs before this market settles and chooses a longer term direction. Even though the longer term direction may indeed turn out to be "up", IMO for many market players, this is still to be managed as a bear market.

What I would like to know, and which I would research if I had more time on my hands, is to find out if the market has been in a distribution or accumulation phase with respect to the long term monies. For that matter, fund money has made mistakes in the past by taking positions too early.

Just some thoughts. :-)
