Gao, pay attention to this part of the statement you quoted "or that you thought there was more imediate and perhaps violent threat. " The statement as a whole "The implication could be either that you think that we should arrest people for being leftists or that you thought there was more immediate and perhaps violent threat. ", occurred after we had been going around about the issue a bit and I was trying to think of all possible interpretations. You had mentioned the first and apparently thought that that was what I meant. I conceded that it was not crazy to think that way but stated that it was incorrect as my real implication was the second. Tim
