I am accumulating more CPN today at these panic firesale prices. I got to thinking, that if I was the General Manager of the California Power Authority (i.e. Freeman) I would make a tender offer for 100% of CPN. This would stock them up with some real live assets as well as a significant chunk of the long term energy contracts signed by the governor. The $5B bond authority authorized by the enabling legislation is pretty broad and the funds could be used for the tender offer.
Maybe Ray you have some suck with Freeman and the Gov and could pass on this capitalist idea if you can stand it. I live in California and would like to see the state get some benefit from enronitis. Otherwise, I plan on getting a fat capital gain on this stock in two years if CPN can survive the next 30 days.
