Gregor,
I love stories like that, as I have one of my own to share.
My dad was married once prior to his marriage to my mom. He had two children a son and a daughter. His daughter died years ago at a very young age, of an overdose. Even prior to that there was no contact with his son. My dad's x-wife prevented there from being any relationship between my father and his children. My Dad went to his grave still loving those children and desiring to have an relationship with his son, as his daughter was already deceased. In November of 1997, not long after I got my computer, my other brother encouraged me to do a search for our "lost" brother. I sent out a few emails. In less than 4 hours I had a reply!! After 30 some years, I had found my brother!! I was afraid to overwhelm him so I waited a couple days to reply. I was really afraid of scaring him off. So I wanted to play it cool. Little did I know he was anxiously checking his email ever couple hours in anticipation of my reply. (We laugh about that now.) Three short weeks later over the Christmas holidays we met in person at my house. My children greeted him on the porch, yelling "HI Uncle John," as if he had always been part of their lives. He walked in the house and his first words to me were, "You look just like my sister!!" I replied, "I can't imagine why?!!??" We both laughed. There were a couple awkward moments, but it didn't remain that way long. The family bond was as if it had never interfered with. We have a fantastic relationship now. I praise God for that reunion, as I had always desired to know my brother that I was not raised with. God willing, my immediate family will be travelling to California, to be there when he gets married this summer. Maybe I will even then get to meet my nephew!!
