It seems to me that there are 3 superior spectrum alternatives right now - NXTL, PCS, and NextWave. With the first 2, you get the value of the handsets, infrastructure, and spectrum. With the third, you may get spectrum and limited infrastructure (60 markets is a waste of time). You start from scratch.

The enterprise value for PCS is estimated around $43 billion. They will generate $11 or $12 billion in revenues this year if their ARPU remains stable at $60. That leaves them with an EBITDA cash flow around $2.8 billion. Yes, they have a truck load of debt. The only question is who could buy them.

AWE could swallow the whole company with only $3 billion in debt. That would enable them to get all the spectrum they need for GSM/GPRS/1XEV services with a GSM carrier and a 1xEV carrier. It would be the most direct way for ATT to get back on top and eliminate the entire standards debate overnight. They would look like heros as they blew past Verizon for the number 1 position for US market share.

The market is totally ignoring the issue of multi-network phones. Seperate carriers on each phone could help generate more revenues for multiple applications. Korea is in the process of introducing seperate 1xEV services for KT Freetel's MAGIC services. This will enable them to deliver wireless cable through their wireless networks.
