When it comes to "non-cash, one-time" charges, I think you have to go back and look at several previous years. If they consistently have these special "one-time" charges then they are just flim-flamming your and either include them, or at least an average. Pro-forma is good when it really is an unusual event that causes the charges (or even special earnings). It has been terribly abused recently and I hope they will do something about the accounting rules and laws to make them uniform again.

BTW, it would be a good idea for all of us to email our congressmen and senators to tell them about the importance of this issue. I can assure you the special interest are lobbying hard right now. But, those guys do listen when there appear to be a significant number of votes involved.
