Thanks Bonnie,
This is a good thread because we all respect each other, and that makes it decent.. We respect the right for each and everyone, to a life of, "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Or something like that and I might add, without harassment or worse for doing so..
And DECENCY is defined mainly, by that pesky word RESPECT, because respect encompasses ALL of the above, As we respect the right for each and everyone....to lead that life...Decency is not defined by psuedo-manners masking bad (I am not going to use that overused word "e" word) intentions..
I imagine Hitler, et al, was quite mannerly, while drinking fine wine, eating good food, listening to opera, ie. Wagner, knowing what to say,, etc.. So easy to couch e-intentions with false manners..
As for books, I like mostly non-fiction, accounts of people and their lives.. Because as I remember from my childhood, one from my Father's stack of reading material , "True Magazine", of his tall stack of reading material, went something like this, "Tis Strange but True, but Truth is always stranger than Fiction"..
And He read everything from newspapers to books to magazines from all over the country, the world, maybe two weeks, a month late, but who cared if you lived on a ranch in eastern Washington, Because you learned, and more so, a person learned to think for YOURSELF..
Maybe while making hay, while building fence, looking for lost livestock,,etc. but more importantly by YOURSELF, without that outside stimulus, that sometimes, many times was only propaganda..
And so I learned from a very functional family to gather information and think for myself..
Take care,
