re the Israel situation, this guy tonight argued that the Abdullah plan was actually the last best hope at this point for getting out of the present mess, and that the US should try hard to encourage it, bring others (like the Jordanians) on board, and so forth. The idea would be to give the Israelis some confidence that they have Arab partners for peace even though they might not have Palestinian ones, and to help make the so-called moderate Arab states a bit more responsible for Palestinian behavior.
