While I'm here, I might as well mention an intriguing book I ran across by Seamus Heaney:

wwnorton.com

Heaney has written several interesting poems- the Follower is one I particularly remember. And I can see, after reading Seamus' poetry, why he would be the perfect person to interact with Beowulf. And I really can't say that about too many poets- although Allan Ginsberg- there's another one that comes to mind- not that his take on Beowulf would have been intelligible. But there you are.

Did you ever read Grendel? It is Beowulf from the point of view of the monster. Lovely book.
