Xanthates can be made from ethyl alcohol, sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide in equal parts. These can be got from local suppliers and mixed on site. For different xanthates, different alcohols such as methyl, and isopropyl can be used. You can use either sodium or potassium hydroxide as well. It saves considerable money to mix your own xanthates. Pine oil or cresylic acid can be used as a frother. Dow MIBC 250 works well too.
