UMC rejects report it plans to take a stake in Shanghua Semiconductor e-insite.net -- AFX - Asia, 2/20/2002 United Microelectronics Corp said a newspaper report that the company plans to take a stake in Shanghua Semiconductor Co is groundless. "The report is based on speculation rather than fact," a company official said. He was reacting to a Commercial Times report citing industry sources and foreign investors that UMC has decided to take a stake in Shanghua through equipment contribution. Shanghua has wafer foundry lines in Wuxi, Jiangsu province in China. At 11.05 am, UMC was off 1.50 twd at 42.50.
