Central bank fears Enron chill

By MIRO CERNETIG and HEATHER SCOFFIELD
From Thursday's Globe and Mail

New York, Ottawa — Bank of Canada Governor David Dodge warned Wednesday that Canadian securities regulators must move quickly to ensure the integrity of financial markets in the aftermath of the Enron scandal, or risk a crisis of confidence that would unravel the country's fragile economic recovery.

"What could undermine the recovery is a perception that authorities are trying to sweep this whole thing under the rug," Mr. Dodge told reporters after making a speech in New York in which he sang the praises of the Canadian economy at the Harvard Club.
