:-) I don't know if it is a guy thing. I can be extremely competitive myself. I just don't like the mindset when the competition is directed outwards. But maybe that only comes (sometimes) with maturity. I know that children seem totally unable to comprehend competing against their prior level of accomplishments as opposed competing against each other. I find that children constantly measure themselves against each other. Maybe it is an adaptive thing- to insure we get some sort of standardization of knowledge in a human group. I notice that children will even respond to a positive comment about a another child as a potential put down to themselves. I am very careful with compliments, because I KNOW this happens, and I try to whisper them to children, one by one. But my goodness, they are competitive about making sure they are "approved". It may be natural, but there are many things in nature I don't like. I am sorry the whole schema is built upon consuming other life forms, for example. I guess the autotrophs are least "guilty".
