Alcatel wins Hutchison OSP deal
By Total Telecom staff

21 February 2002

Hutchison 3G has awarded French vendor Alcatel a three-year contract for the delivery of its Open Services Platform (OSP). In an announcement at the 3GSM Congress in Cannes, Hutchison said the OSP will provide the service-enabling technology needed to support the U.K. launch of its 3G services, scheduled for sometime between July and September this year.

Initially the system will be deployed in the U.K. and later made available in other countries where Hutchison Whampoa has 3G interests, the company said.

Alcatel's OSP will help Hutchison 3G integrate services into multi-vendor environments, irrespective of the underlying core network, the company said, giving it the flexibility to cost-effectively and easily develop a wide range of services for both voice and data streams.

"One of the keys to winning and retaining customers is the ability to deliver easy to use, ever-evolving, personalized and relevant services," Colin Tucker, managing director of Hutchison 3G, said in a statement. "Alcatel's technology met our requirements for a flexible solution that will enable us to develop and deliver innovative applications within strict timescales."

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
