What do you want, that we refuse to deal with any compromised regime? That we take over the world? Seriously, our options are limited in various respects. We allied with the Soviet Union during World War II, choosing to fight the immediate problem, even if it meant dealing with a rotten regime, because it would have been a worse fight, and a possible loss, without the Eastern Front. Does that make us responsible for the Gulag?
