Achtung, baby! Feb 21, 2002, (Financial Times Deutschland /FT Information via COMTEX) Dell Computer Corp, the US computer giant, plans to expand further in Germany, as well as in France, China and Japan. The company's market share in these countries still stands well below 10 per cent, although all four count among the world's six largest IT markets (Germany is estimated to rank fourth).
According to market research by IDC, Dell currently holds a 6.6 per cent share of the German computer market (including PCs, notebooks and mainframes). Fujitsu Siemens, the German-Japanese joint venture, leads the German market with 21.6 per cent, followed by USbased Compaq with 9.3 per cent and HewlettPackard with 7.4 per cent. According to IDC, Dell increased its share of the German market by 31.1 per cent last year.
