I think you are quite wrong in accusing people of hypocrisy in asserting that they hope to have an long term affect on behavior by posting the Ten Commandments, and difficult to understand why you would assume that it was not sincere, even if there were an additional motive.

Most of the country is white, black, or Hispanic. Most whites are Christian, at least nominally. Most blacks are Christian. Most Hispanics are Christian. About 4% of the population is Asian, and some of them are Christian. Lots of Koreans are Christian. Lots of 2nd and 3rd generation Chinese and Japanese are Christian. I have even met a fair amount of Indian Christians, usually lower caste. Some school districts have unusual concentrations of recent immigrants or Asians, but the overwhelming majority do not. Nevertheless, as I said, I will go along with the hypocrisy of pretending that religious diversity is more of an issue than it is. I cannot imagine why you are so dismissive of the point, though.

Do you think that if there is one Sikh in the chorus, it is improper to have a traditional holiday show? Do you fear that one Sikh in town will kill himself during the Christmas season? Should we pretend that the country was founded by Sikhs, instead of Noncomformist Protestants and Catholics seeking religious freedom? I have the experience of being a minority in a Christian country as a child. One would have to be crazy in the first place not to be able to handle it. And my proposal would make sure that there was a suitable quotation from his tradition. So, no, I don't understand how you can get so worked up.
