Press Release
Infowave Announces Licensing Agreement With Certicom To Integrate End-To-End Encryption Technology Into Infowave Wireless Business Engine

BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON--

Best-Of-Breed Mobile Security Offering to Enhance Infowave's Inherently Secure Product Architecture

Infowave Software (TSE: IW - news), a global provider of software that connects enterprise applications to wireless devices, today announced a multi-year licensing agreement with Certicom, a leading provider of mobile e-business security, that will enable Infowave to fully integrate Certicom's security technology into the Infowave Wireless Business Engine.

``Infowave and Certicom are both leaders in the wireless data domain and have a strong relationship that benefits mutual customers. Infowave places high value on the wireless security expertise Certicom brings to the table,'' said Prakash Panjwani, Certicom senior vice president of business development. ``We are pleased that Infowave has made a long-term commitment to build Certicom security into the Infowave Wireless Business Engine, ensuring its customers have a highly- secure wireless platform.''

Infowave will integrate the latest versions of Certicom's encryption algorithms into future versions of the Infowave Wireless Business Engine and its full suite of application connectors. Access to Certicom's full suite of Encryption Libraries, including (F.I.P.S) certified algorithms to be released in the future, will give Infowave greater ability to securely port its products to additional platforms, such as Linux, Java and RIM The agreement will also allow Infowave to expand on its growing number of government customers to include organizations that require FIPS compliancy for technology purchases.

Infowave Adds Security, Performance to other Wireless Solutions

When selecting wireless technology, it is critical for organizations to look for offerings with complete, end-to-end security. Wireless network providers, or carriers, typically only secure data transmitted over the air, and don't provide the more robust end-to-end security demanded in the corporate environment. Unlike wireless point solutions that provide only partial wireless coverage around a ``hotspot'' or within a limited range, the Infowave Wireless Business Engine and its network intelligent middleware Infowave AirPower provide seamless, real-time, secure communications to and from applications behind the corporate firewall.

In addition to its high levels of security, the Infowave Wireless Business Engine can be used to enhance security and performance over virtually any wireless wide area or local area network (WWAN, WLAN), including Bluetooth and 802.11b, and virtual private networks (VPNs). Customers who want to move between hot spots and out-of-building wireless coverage will also gain significant value from the security, reliability and performance optimization Infowave AirPower middleware and Certicom provide with constant, real-time connection to the wireless data airlink.

Security Requirements for Wireless Corporate Data

For complete security, a wireless data solution that is accessing information on a corporate Intranet must provide authentication, authorization, encryption, and data integrity. By utilizing the Infowave Wireless Business Engine and Certicom's advanced security features, customers will receive an end-to-end security model that creates a secure pipe from the mobile user's device through the wireless data network and to the corporate server. Authentication proves the identity of the user; authorization determines what the user is allowed to do; encryption assures the privacy of transmissions; and data integrity assures that the information has not been altered.

"When choosing a long-term partner for security, we wanted to provide the best, long-term security solution available for our customers and are pleased to announce this agreement with Certicom. Certicom's offering is ideally suited for wireless devices, with less computational overhead, smaller key size and lower bandwidth usage than other competing solutions," said Sal Visca, Infowave chief technology officer. "Every company, especially many of the government organizations we have worked with, is concerned with security now more than ever. The confidence and brand recognition that the Certicom name inspires is important for our customers. We believe our alliance with Certicom will ensure that we will be able to offer the highest level of encryption technology, now and in the future, on top of the security features inherent in our entire product suite."
