Say Dole

I see that you have produced a real beauty of a pineapple, I enjoy that. In many cases the cultural traditions of aboriginal peoples were largely destroyed as new patterns were imposed from without. The injustices encountered when one explores history are often unfathomable.

The Hawaiians have a saying

I ka `oAE8lelo no ke ola; I ka `oAE8lelo no ka make.

In the language rests life; In the language rests death.

In order to get some idea of what Hawaii means to the American people you should read this link

The name Dole came to Hawaii with the son of Wigglesworth Dole, Daniel, one of the first missionaries to Hawaii. Daniel's son, Sanford Ballard Dole became the first governor of Hawaii, reluctantly. Sanford's nephew, James Drummond Dole came to Hawaii in 1901 and purchased a plot of land at auction on which he began to grow pineapples, eventually Jim Dole would become the Pineapple King. Sanford Dole did acquire land at some point between 1871 - 1878 but the Dole Food Company claim that they were started in 1851 is not true, the company that was started in 1851 was Castle and Cooke, one of the "Big Five."
