There are three areas that NT is targeting

1. Desktop - this will happen. One day all PC's and probably PowerPC's will run NT at the desktop. However, I think it's going to take a while to get there. Late 97 and 98 is the timeframe I see.

2. NOS - NT is making huge strides in this area, I don't know of any company that is not moving to NT server or are not considering it. NT is the current NOS of choice and is displacing Novell and Banyan at an alarming rate.

3. Application and Database servers - UNIX is still King in this area and will remain that way for a while, However, Alot of copmpanies are coming out with NT support for Databases and corporate applications. Once NT matures, it will give UNIX a run for it's money. I'm targeting 1998.

4. Firewall - This has been a UNIX environment form the begining and hold a huge share of the market. But dozens of companies are coming out with easy to configure and manage NT based software. Large corporation will still opt for UNIX, but the medium/small businesses will opt for the NT solution (I think this is a much bigger market).

Anyways, it's only my opinion
