Qualcomm, Dell Computer and The Gap Are Among Magazine’s Favorite Stocks To Buy And Hold In the New Year

New York City, February 6, 2002 -- After challenging a group of high-performing mutual fund managers to pick one stock they would buy and hold for the next 12-15 months, Bloomberg Personal Finance today unveiled its list of 15 Favorite Stocks for 2002 based on their choices.

Bloomberg Personal Finance, the premier monthly magazine for serious investors, is part of the Bloomberg news and information family, the world's financial news leader. The magazine, the fastest-growing personal-finance title in America, boasts a circulation of 400,000.

According to editor in chief Steve Gittelson, the magazine approached 15 of the most respected fund managers in America to go public with their bets on stocks -- and their best informed judgment calls -- amidst circumstances that intimidated many of their competitors.

The picks ran the gamut of market niches, stock sizes, and economic plays – all very hopeful signs of a deep and widespread economic recovery, Gittelson said.

"It was interesting that some chose well-known stars, whereas others turned the spotlight on tiny gems or tarnished treasures," Gittelson said. "As individual investors scan the horizon for fruitful, moderate-term investments, it is heartening to see how broadly based these recommendations are."

This year’s list of 15 Favorite Stocks, followed by the fund manager who made the selection (in no particular order):
