NY times (NYT) reports:

NY Times just reported that Chase Manhattan Bank failed to report the cost of acquiring arms from the French during 1776 for the Franco-American Alliance.

The specific amount of rifles, pistols, gun powder, and 28 gunships purchased was $9,875.53; which was pledged with gold and property in New York City. Property which was borrowed with an IOU notarized by no other than Adam Smith in 1776.

NY Times calculates that the IOU to the French government was never paid for. At an annual compounded rate of return of 6%, the Times reports that Chase ; now JP Morgan, owes the French government $5,172,326,867.17 .

What a joke!
