Thomas M, The death penalty imposed on a convicted murderer, in many states of the U.S.A., is called "punishment". That fact negates your cute little example of the first grader. The word "punishment" runs the gamut from being forced to stand in the corner, to the other extreme of death. You are nitty picking words without consideration for the context of the entire sentence, or paragraph. Either you have a problem with reading comprehension, or you are just attempting to needle those that disagree with you. Your methods, and intentions, are so transparent that you make yourself out to be a fool. It would be to your best advantage that you do not engage in a war of words as you would be totally unarmed.
