To all you unsung heroes on this board who work against the corporate structure to find connection that means ease of communication for the betterment of people.

I believe the communications industry in its zest for subscribers has forgotten the fact that a numerical count is composed of human beings. In those subscriber figures there is a human element that does not compute as pro or con for the balance sheet. I sit here thinking I could go into competition with the operators if rulings permitted. I could start a company called switch call and all my patrons would automatically be switched to the newest promo on the market. In the constant quest of competition for subscribers I could use the very game that is played to create my own company, that could use the very competition that the carriers have forced on each other for my success.

I care for two older people and they I hover over constantly. I deplore tactics of telesales people, it to me is the worst job in the world to create an income from.

Yesterday I called my folks to find their number was disconnected. This particular day I am trying to assist them with understanding of a new medication and the Doctor I am sure is trying to call them too. These two people are troopers one is almost blind and the other one is now crippled not exactly candidates for the gold. Calling them I receive a message their phone has been disconnected. I now dial the operator for assistance. After taking the number in question they switch me to their customer care however after I get into customer care i learn this phone number is not handled by this companys customer care.

I start at square one again a little more edgy as each moment goes on. There is no simple way of doing this there is no one number to call to report a line problem. This time fortunately I get someone called Dakota who tells me I have to call Pacific Bell.

Same procedure no button fits my call and I wait again. My concern at this point is bordering on getting angry as each additional moment passes. Pacific Bell is very kind they were the provider for the number but someone else has taken their subscriber. They inform me that the prior day in one area there were people going door to door informing Pacific Bell patrons that Pacific Bell would no longer be providing service. At this point my thoughts are my gold medallists have been given erroneous information. Pacific Bell also informs me that carriers usually have the line up and running the same day. The gentleman at the other end of the line is sensing I am very distraught and he is trying to assure me not to worry. He informs me I should be able to call in an hour or so. Guess what no connection and it is evening.

My next step is to make sure they are okay that means get over there to check on them.

They are fine they have just got the bargain of all times a 10.00 per month guaranteed for life phone bill and it's digital. One problem is that no one informed them that this bargain means you can call out but the Doctor and I can’t call in, is what I am thinking. I am also wondering if their phone is twenty years old will it have the digital advantage?

To me the tragic part of this is I thought the vast botch up would have been the doing of some fly by night carrier . One would assume that the tech prior to leaving the house would make sure the line was up and running especially with the age of my gold medallists, it is now morning and there is still no line. Something called having to impact the line what ever that means has yet to be done. There is another impact going on the one I am feeling, which is anger and disrespect for T.

I am posting this hoping if any of you people run into line techs please tell them my story. It is not right to leave older people without an incoming line. The company doesn’t give a damn, the telesales people would sell them skate boards that are guaranteed to cure arthritis and give site to the blind. My only hope right now is some of you tech guys start gossiping that inbound calls are equally important to the lives of many people or alive and healthy people do add to the subscriber count.

Simple days of dial O are gone. . In this world of deregulation and increased competition should there not be a regulation called the lives of people come first?
