"...when we go after Saddam."

You seem to miss the point I tried to make a while back.
MO is that we can get Saddam anytime, contrary to the prepackaged story we're given.
If he's needed to maintain a wedge in the part of the globe, we can leave him there.
If he needs to be taken out, the resources are there to do it.
I'm sure we both think each other naive, but watch what happens. He'll be there as long as is useful, or taken out like Noriega, or invaded and "lost" like OBL.

If the American people are told the truth, however, they'll back the actions that are fair, honest and benefit America.

My objection if you take the time to examine it, is that "we" (not you and me, because we are not represented yet) are needlessly causing more potent enemies to appear in many parts of the world. Whether by accident or design, it's a flawed strategy, costly in lives, money, and national credibility. We can gain resources without war, and don't need to make excuses.

We could be the superpower version of switzerland, but the old-timers are fighting the geopolitics of the last war.

If we were, or more optimistically, when we are, we'll be a non-interventionist militarily-capable superpower, with mandatory national service to teach discipline and cultural training to young people, an expanded peace corps for those who wish to help others abroad, and hypergrowth technology, finance and media businesses provided, not forced, to the rest of the world. That's the real solution.

The only stumbling block is all this black-bag backroom nonsense that keeps the real activities in the background and maintain suspicions at home and abroad.

When you think about it, all these private oil deals, if made honestly public, would be welcomed by the American public, and would not require military force. The operators don't know this. They're still back in 1945 pre-Information Age mentality. They are getting rich and feel guilty about it.

Here's what the American people think:"Fine! Get filthy rich! We love it! Just don't be in government, don't lie about it, keep government open and honest, and don't create wars when open negotiations and American business and know-how will do."

That's what this American thinks, anyway.
