I suspect that a lot of the ones you would list from above are ones that a lot of people here agree with, and visa-versa. When I read your posts, I keep hearing echoes of this kind of writing from the left 50 years ago.

However, somewhere behind the scenes, wise masters were deciding how we would really lead our lives. Ultimate decisions were being made quietly in boardrooms and council chambers unfamiliar to us magazine readers. We were being told only what we wanted to hear. The popular media kept on assuring us that progress was our birthright while a great contradiction was becoming apparent. Despite what we were led to believe, in fact, great amounts of money were being spent, not on schools and public health, but on our military forces and on selfish business endeavors, to support dictatorships, to keep the slaves in line, to assure that our ultimate values were preserved.

Sound familiar, Ray?
