Any opinion on this?
<<< The Dhimmi concept is not about full citizenship this is granted.. However, in its historical context it was a revolutionary forward way of thinking.. At a time within Europe was engaged in religious wars and persecutions, the Arab Islamic civilization had the dhimmi concept for dealing with non-Moslems, it even provided a haven for Jews fleeing the Catholic oppression in the 15th century…. It includes:
- Freedom of religious practices. Exemplified by the Covenant between Omar and the Christians of Jerusalem. - Payment of Jizzieh. (big note, while the Christians paid Al Jezzieh, the Moslems paid al Zakat). More or less that same taxes with different names. - A proven Hadeeth of the Profit, Man Atha Themian faqad Athani.. He who hurts, a Christian or a Jew, would also hurt me…. - The Quranic verse “La Ikraha fi addin”… there is no compulsion in religion… - Allowance to enter the Army, as Christian Arabs fought alongside Moslems under Salah Eddin to restore the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem, which was driven out by the Crusades.. The first crusade killed 70,000 Arab Christians in Jerusalem because they were “Orthodox Heretics”.
While not all Moslem leaders had this implemented (which gave way to the oppression of the Christians under the non-Arab Ottomans), it must be noted that such framework for coexistence, in the historical context, far exceeded in its tolerance, any other system in the world at that time, including all of Europe.. Certainly, Judaism also doesn’t rise to such a tolerant level…
The natural extension of Dhimmi concept in modern times, is full and equal citizenship… this is a given and is advocated by most mainstream Islamists… this derives from Ijtihad and is very Islamic… What we have is a convergence: An inalienable right of the Christians to be full citizens in their homeland, and an Islamic thought, the religion of the majority, that accepts and supports this right. >>>
