Because Northwood is replacing the Willamette counterparts. For example 1.6A replaces 1.6

This allows a lower manufacturing cost 0.13 -- and higher performing -- Northwood to replace a 0.18 Willamette P4. This results in more profit for Intel and more performance for the user.

This will also cause AMD trouble with its Quanti-speed deception as AMDron has to stretch their benchmark selections even further.
