MEXICO CITY, Feb 21, 2002 (Notimex/Corporate Mexico by Internet Securities, Inc. via COMTEX) -- Telephone company Iusacell reported income of 6.24 billion pesos (US$687.5 million) in 2001, a 9% increase over the revenues obtained in 2000, company officials said.In the firm's annual financial statement, Iusacell said that its total number of clients grew 4%, after being hit by the high level of turnover of prepay and post-pay subscribers, as well as the deceleration in the Mexican economy.At the close of the year, Iusacell had 512,000 subscribers for its digital prepay services. The firm also obtained 1.46 billion pesos (US$160.8 million) in revenue in the fourth quarter of the year. Publicity and sales costs totaled 25% of revenues, at 410 million pesos (US$45.2 million).Last year Iusacell invested US$68 million to increase capacity, expand coverage and improve the quality of its services. |
