WP:

Brilliantly written, and delicately laid out how the "left," pro-environmentalists, etc. are willing to focus on the ends not the means. As I noted long ago, this ends not means crapola is basically Stalinism, Maoism. There is nothing more dictatorial than the left when it is convinced of the moral correctness of their position. And since they are always convinced on that, and the stupidity of anyone who disagrees with them ("they just sooooo stupid.") there is nothing left but the dictatorship of the left.

Al Gore (or Ralph Nader) should be president, if not by election then by "divine" (that is, whatever the natural divinity of the left decides) election. Democracy? Well, yes, and truth? Well, yes, but only if we get to the right conclusion. If not, then we've just seen Democracy railroaded by the wrong sort of people.

Interesting thing the environmentalists did recently, more of the wrong thing (fraud) for the "right" reason:

<New accounts report that a number of federal and state wildlife biologists have admitted to falsely planting evidence of Canada lynx in Washington state. If the falsification had not been discovered, severe limitations on multiple uses such as hunting and trapping could have been implemented on affected Forest Service lands.

Currently, the USDA Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management are proposing to amend land management plans to conserve habitat for the lynx, an animal listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

Seven biologists, three from the USDA Forest Service, two from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and two from the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, confessed to planting samples of lynx fur in parts of the Wenatchee and Gifford Pinchot National Forests.

The scientists claimed that they were not trying to manipulate or expand the lynx habitat, but were testing the lab's ability to identify the cat species through DNA analysis. None of the seven biologists remain in the lynx survey program. Six were reassigned and one retired.

If what they are alleged to have done did in fact occur, they should all be fired and their names made public so that they will never again be in a position of public trust.>

But of course this shouldn't be any real surprise. Environmentalists trespass on private property in the name of tree-sitting, drive potentially murderous spikes into trees (hey, kill a logger today! Or a mill worker!!), commit arson in the forest(!!) and steal land (well, let's just call it "regulation out of any commercial usage" but without compensation, like, say, a public bond issue).

Locally, the environmentalists want to stop a cemetery from cutting down any trees on the undeveloped side of its property. The property is worth about $5 million as either a residential development or more cemetery plots, but if it has to stay in forest then it's pretty much worthless (or even negative, since it has to be insured, and is a magnet for ne'er do wells, teen drinkers and intravenous drug takers). The rationale? Well, by gum, we need trees and the secondary Douglas fir on the cemetery land fer sure is trees. And do they propose to take the property in condemnation, eminent domain, have the city actually pay for it? My gracious, no, since that would require a citizen vote (Democracy is SO messy) and the citizens are very unlikely to vote a $5 million bond issue to buy "parkland" where nobody wants a park.

So, what is their solution? Aw shucks, just steal the land. Don't ever pay for it, just regulate it out of usage. Steal it, for chrissakes, the guy's a CAPITALIST, after all. Those trees belong to the "people." The flower people, Julia Butterfly and the rest.
