Hmmm....I have generally written Ericsson off as a possible W-CDMA chipset customer. This is great news...even if the handset was only a prototype.

However, we received more positive news than we expected from Ericsson. The company’s CEO, Kurt Hellstrom, reiterated company guidance for the year, and suggested that the worst might be behind for infrastructure suppliers, as operators will
need to at least continue with current levels of spending to service at acceptable levels. Those operators have spent the last year boosting EBITDA and are largely in a better position to spend than they were a year ago. Also, we were able to use actual 3G
terminals at both the Alcatel and Ericsson booths (Ericsson was using the Qualcomm W-CDMA chipset!), and both were running over commercial W-CDMA networks.
This should help prove to skeptics that the technology does work.

Later in the same report....

Ericsson – Sony Ericsson showed no new phones, but we hear that the company was
showing key customers its new line of phones and will formally launch the products at
Cebit.

I assume that this means that the handset that was being used for the W-CDMA demo was Q's prototype handset. This may not mean that they are going to use a MSM chipset for their commercial handset....but it does open all kinds of doors.
