The Japanese didn't use their financial clout when they had the opportunity. They preferred to go buy Columbia Studios and the Rockfeller Center -the Arabs did the same mistake when they were awash in Petrodollars- when they should have gone to expand influence beyond South East Asia.

It is too late now. In this respect the US has an advantage: They think big. And perhaps that's the reason they keep the advantage.
