All,

I talked to Alan Engbring of Investor Relations at Vical (619) 453-9900 on Friday, June 27, 1997. I had questions regarding the Scientific American, June/1997 article about Genetic Therapy. I am currently organizing my thoughts re: that topic and will post them when finished, but for now, here are some other points (most, if not all are old news) covered in the conversation.

Vical - progress during the first half of 1997:

1. Patents for Naked DNA delivery (this gives further exposure to the technology and more name recognition to Vical.

2. Influenza vaccine Phase I clinical completed but no results reported yet.

3. Talks with potential partners re: using the Vical technology continuing.

4. Allovectin-7 Phase I/II clinical results showing promise against Melanoma.

Vical - `expected' progress during the second half of 1997:

1. Get more test results re: Allovectin-7 use on Melanoma.

2. Announce potential partners who may use Vical's technology.

3. Hope to have Phase I clinical results re: influenza vaccine announced (if positive, this would be a further validation of the Naked DNA technology).

4. Start their own malaria vaccine Phase I clinical.

5. Keep moving Allovectin-7 toward product category.

Like I said, probably old information that is available in the annual report and press releases...

Bill
