Many professing Christians could not meet the test of unqualified subscription to the Apostle's Creed.......

So? What makes the Apostles' Creed definitive? It was written primarily to try to make one interpretation of Christianity dominant over others. But since for non-Catholics there is no central determining authority as to what Christianity entails and requires, the Apostles' Creed is just the position of certain, not all, Christians. It is perfectly possible to be a Christian without adopting the Creed, or indeed any Creed, as dispositive.

BTW, there is a difference of whether it's the Apostle's Creed, meaning of only one apostle, or the Apostles' Creed, meaning of more than one apostle.
