And, of course, "the settlement issue" is a surrogate for a long list of grievances.

They could have gotten 90%+ of these grievances settled diplomatically. The had the most dovish Israeli government ever and President Clinton going to bat for them. So do you think they are really at war for the just the other 10%? Or have they reverted to earlier motives? If the majority of Israelis think it's the latter, surely you can see why.
