Al, if the truth be told, everything is in oversupply --- commodities, industrial production, precious metals and, without any doubt, human beings. Indeed, nothing is precious, least of all, someone else's life.
I guess the trick of being successful is to keep the real cost of production below the selling-price and also to find a reason why one's product or oneself is special. Socialist governments want businesses to keep production costs high, as result of expensive wages, and the selling price of the goods low. And, of course, no-one is special. Capitalism wants production costs, including wages, low and selling prices high. These days, however, labor costs have to be cut to the bone and likewise selling prices. So, it doesn't pay to grow anything or make anything --- in fact, to be productive at all.
That's why "fantasy" businesses like "information" technology, "asset" management, "alternative" health-care, "environmental" care or any form of gambling are now so popular. In fact, any "bullshit" occupation is better than a traditional trade or profession or other form of gainful employment. And, in this regard, to be a politician must surely be at the top of the hit-parade.
And who wants to run a company or corporation with all the attendant headaches and heart-attacks? Only those who have a hidden agenda or a scam in mind --- as we hear, almost daily, in the media. |
