if you believe in God's Providence, He would not let the content become totally obscure... That implies that he hasn't been trying to correct this for 2,000 years. I wouldn't be so sure about that. One of the tenets of traditional Christianity that I can't accept is that God came down regularly to talk to the prophets face to face (or to burning bush or whatever), but with Jesus he gave up the practice entirely. Doesn't compute for me.
