The best that can be done is to set limits at a family level.

There you hit the nail on the head. School districts are totally afraid to antagonize parents for fear of law suits.

I guess that as human beings, we can never expect parental responsibility to exist in all families. This is such an old argument. Who are we to tell people what they can and cannot wear? We don't have that right.

When I first met my oldest son's girlfriend, my first thought was that she didn't have a clue that her halter top and cut off jeans might have been more appropriate at the beach instead of the nice family cafe' where we met. It was a Sunday, and most families were dressed in their "Sunday best." We got a lot of stares.

Today, 3 years later, she has matured into a sophisticated young college student who supports herself. Her entire wardrobe has evolved. She talks to me a lot about what to wear to this or that event, and admits that she didn't realize what she was doing at 18 and 19.

Role models will always be there for boys and girls. Who are the less exhibitionist of those role models today?
