The troops in Afgan were primarily Marines, the Marines are part of the Navy. The air strikes were from F-14's and F-18's until long range bombers could be used. As best I know not a single Air Force F-16 or F-15 was used in Afghan. So if the sorties were generated from Aircraft Carriers and the majority of the troops were marines who did most of the fighting?
