While it's not politically correct to ask the question, let's ask it anyhow. Is it beneficial to society in the long run to expend social resources on people who cannot provide for themselves? If there is drought in the Sudan, should we be keeping people alive when there are far too many of them for the land to support? Or is it better for the progress of the human race, and the health of the planet, to let them starve?

There are consequences to the actions we take. Are we making the best choices for the long term health of society and the planet?
