"There are consequences to the actions we take. Are we making the best choices for the long term health of society and the planet?"

Well, you just set yourself of as having dominion over your fellow human creatures. Obviously you excluded your self as a member of the population subject to the choice. I interpret your choice this way: Would you have the society of the planet (long term) populated with people like yourself who are benevolent in their dictation of society or who are barbarous in their oppression of others? And what consequences, personally, to the soul of the choice maker be there?
